Personality and the Substance Abuser

Group Dynamics

Addiction Related to Physical Systems and Metabolism

We will examine the physical effect and the emotional affect of drugs and alcohol from ingestion to elimination by looking at how the body struggles to accommodate these substances. Intro to Creative Counseling Techniques

A basic approach to what works and what doesn't, using sound clinical theory backed up by practical "common sense" interventions.  A review of 12 steps supports will be combined with newer, more controversial approaches such as Harm Reduction.

  • Please note that Most classes are held at the Center for Prevention & Counseling at 61 Spring St, Newton in the second floor classroom.  Classes begin promptly at 8:30 and end at 3:00.
  • Classes with this background color will be held at a Different location - Integrity House.
    • The address is: Integrity House, 103 Lincoln Park , Newark, NJ 07102
  • Classes are $50 per class, but inquire with Shelley at 973-383-4787 about group rates. No one will be added to class lists until registration form and payment have been received.  Walk-ins are welcome, but please apply a $15 convenience fee.
  • Classes beginning with “P” are initial Certified Prevention Specialist classes, but can be used for CADC or Education Professional Development as well.
  • If you are unable to attend a class for some reason, refunds are not given, but you will receive credit to attend another class at your convenience.
  • Although the Center for Prevention & Counseling does host the Initial CADC classes we DO NOT register or keep a list of available CADC classesPlease call NJPN directly at 732-367-0611 for information regarding INITIAL CADC classes or visit their website at www.njpn.org.
  • We converted to a web-based only brochure that can be sent via email. To receive the brochure via email, please email Shelley at shelley@centerforprevention.org If you don't have access to a computer at home, we will be happy to mail you a class listing. Just call Shelley at 973-383-4787 to arrange for it.
  • There are NO Scholarships available for CADC or CADC recertification/renewal classes.
  • Scholarships are available if you are actively pursuing the Certified Prevention Specialist certification.  You must contact New Jersey Prevention Network (NJPN) at 732-367-0611 for more information.
