Welcome to Mentoring Plus, formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sussex County!  In an effort to enhance the quality and maximize the efficiency of mentoring services for Sussex County residents, the Center for Prevention and Counseling (CFPC) announced the integration of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sussex County (BBBS) into Mentoring Plus, a program of CFPC in January 2009.

CFPC and BBBS had a long history of working in partnership to provide mentoring services while making a positive difference in the lives of Sussex County youth.   For approximately eight years, BBBS and CFPC pooled their resources providing a peer mentoring program for elementary age children. Additionally, both agencies worked cooperatively on various county and social service committees.  BBBS embraced a prevention-based framework while utilizing the Asset development standards, just like CFPC.

mentorsThe mission remains: assisting participants to reach their highest potential and maintain healthy substance free lives.  The combination of the two agencies has strengthened the program and enhanced the provision of services for all participants.   The administrative and direct service staff of BBBS transferred to Mentoring Plus, resulting in a seamless integration with no interruption or significant alteration of the application, screening, training, mentoring, supportive and evaluative services previously provided by BBBS.

With 70 years of collective experience in prevention based programs, joining forces has resulted in a profound positive difference in the lives of Sussex County children. Mentoring Plus and CFPC remain committed to continuing to meet the growing needs of children in our community.  Through mentoring programs, as well as a multitude of other prevention based programs, we continue to foster the development of a caring community and facilitate the growth of children to strong and successful adults.
