SERVICES FOR YOUTH...

Mentoring Plus assists children ages six through eighteen to reach their highest potential through professionally supported mentoring relationships. Trained professionals recruit, screen, match and support all Mentoring Plus matches. Three types of mentoring programs are available: traditional, one-on-one mentoring between a child and an adult; school-based mentoring that takes place during the school day; and peer mentoring in which high school youth mentor younger children. Girls Circle Group
Girls Circle is a 10-week, evidence-based program designed to meet the unique challenges of girls by creating support groups that focus on increasing connections, building strengths and developing resiliency among girls. Essential life skills are taught through team building games, art activities, creative writing, role playing and theater arts activities. Funding may be available. Coordinated School Health
The Coordinated School Health Program is an eight component Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) model that systematically incorporates nutrition, family, community, staff wellness, health and physical education, counseling and health services and healthy school environment. In collaboration with Partners in Prevention of Hudson County, the Coordinated School Health Program assists middle and high schools in Newton, Andover and Green, as well as in Union City, to reduce obesity, increase physical activity and address many social concerns present in the lives of the students served. The program additionally provides staff and faculty wellness programs. With schools acting as anchors for the program, many of the communities’ media, religious, health care and recreational organizations participate in maintaining the well-being of the young people and staff of the schools being served. STOP (Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking) Program
Through the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Act grant, we develop, assess, and implement effective strategies to prevent and reduce underage drinking. Using the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking as a model, the strategies we employ include changing local attitudes and norms, and reevaluating existing laws and policies around underage drinking.
