WISE PROGRAM
 WISE (Wellness Initiative for Senior Education)

Free Program Focuses on Educating Seniors - The Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE) Program celebrates healthy aging and educates older adults on a variety of topics. This free program is sponsored by the Sussex-Wantage Municipal Alliance, Sussex County Division of Senior Services and Center for Prevention and Counseling. It will take place at the Sussex-Wantage Branch Library beginning Tuesday, November 9th from 9:30 AM – 11:00AM.  The program will run every Tuesday through December 14th and is open to any Sussex County senior. However, priority registration will be given to Sussex and Wantage residents over the age of 60.  

The educational program offers six lessons that cover a wide range of topics. Participants will have an opportunity to meet new people and:

  • Learn about the aging process and how to make healthy lifestyle choices
  • Celebrate this exciting stage of life and all the benefits that come with it
  • Discuss risk factors and behaviors older adults should avoid to stay healthy
  • Examine how alcohol, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how they can avoid problems
  • Learn how to use simple tools to help you feel more empowered about your health and the healthcare you receive

                               

Free breakfast will be served at each lesson, and all program participants will be eligible to receive a gift certificate and other giveaways.

WISE will be holding a FREE PROGRAM at the Sussex-Wantage Branch Library beginning Wednesday, June 2nd from 10:30 AM - Noon. 
The program will run every Wednesday through July 7th andis open to Sussex and Wantage residents over the age of 60.

WISE, created by New Jersey Prevention Network, is a wellness and prevention program developed to help older adults celebrate healthy aging, make healthy lifestyle choices and avoid substance abuse.

The curriculum is designed to take place two hours per week over a six-week period and includes breakfast or lunch.

The topics for the six weeks are: 

  • Understanding the Changes Associated with Aging
  • Aging Sensitivity
  • Valuing Cultural and Generational Diversity
  • Medication and the Older Adult
  • Addiction, ATOD and the Older Adult
